Mercedes-Benz is leaving New York Fashion Week! (Or you might say it's changing its name.) NY Fashion Week is definitively leaving Lincoln Center. IMG is buying MADE Fashion Week.
And if that's not enough, the CFDA (led by Diane von Furstenberg), has bought the Fashion Calendar from the always-elegant Ruth Finley.
So many changes. What does it all mean? Where is Marylou Luther when you need her?
If we know one thing, it's that IMG puts on a great show. Wherever this all ends up, it's bound to be good. Stay tuned!
NY FASHION WEEK FALL / WINTER 2016 IS ALMOST HERE, AND (MAY BE) CELEB-TASTIC!
Do we care about celebrities? No, not really. We just know we're a bit jealous of them. So maybe that's a kind of caring.
More and more celebrities seem to be enjoying a crossover with the fashion world. Kanye West has shown twice now at Paris Fashion Week. Taylor Swift recently walked in the Victoria's Secret runway show. Katie Holmes had a runway show last season (or maybe it was the season-before-last).
And there are probably plenty of other examples we don't know about.
I guess what we're saying is that celebrities are doing fashion stuff, and going to shows, which makes celebrity-front-row watching a new dimension of fashion week. And, think about it, it brings attention to the clothes, the designers, and everything else.
We have this vision of a fashion week of the future, but we don't really have the capital to create it right now. It involves, like, hover platforms with '60s-style dancers as one might see in The Jetsons. And maybe a band where a clarinetist is playing like 5 clarinets with 5 arms (and a 6th arm has a tuba). And believe me, my friend: that costs money.
And think about this: how's he gonna' play 6 instruments without 6 mouths?
Do you see what we're saying? We'd need at least $16,000 for that, probably!
Anyway, we may have strayed slightly off-topic here, but enjoy the full schedule of shows in February!

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FALL 2016 SCHEDULE
More than 100 designers will be filling 8 dates in February once again, for what has become the veritable, twice-yearly "superbowl of fashion"* at Lincoln Center.
We're hard at work updating our fashion portals with everything you need to know about Mereceds Benz / MB Fashion Week's Fall 2016 schedule of events. (Yes, we mean the one in New York, although MB also holds similar events in places as far afield as Australia, Miami and Russia.)
There's no way to pinpoint what the NY Fashion Week schedule Fall 2016 will look like. We've just created the framework with the fashion week dates for NYC, and will fill in the details as they develop. (Sort of like those instant Kodak cameras they used to make, which have since become Instagram.)
Generally speaking, many of the events can be seen live, online. Betsey Johnson (who has a killer collection right now at Macy's, as a matter of fact), is a fan favorite each season for the free-wheeling antics of her models.
Others, such as DKNY, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, are a little harder to pin down (read: they stream it on their own sites, since they have the muscle).
But hey, everyone has to make a living, right? Even big-wig designers with super-boxy cuts that would put David Byrne to shame. (Heh heh).
(David Byrne wears Calvin Klein.)
But we digress ....
MB's Fashion Week is a lot of fun. Sort of like being in an airplane terminal, except there's free coffee by Illy, affordable chili-with-crackers and treats to eat (affordable being important if you're poor, like us). The wonderful Empire Hotel is right across the street, but (again, if you're anything like us), that probably won't help you keep up with the schedule of events, since you have to trek back and forth from Astoria (conveniently located in Queens).
And if you want to go to the fashionable, über-hip shows, well, those have nothing to do with Mercedes-Benz, and are mainly held in the meatpacking district, which might sound like a Freddy Krueger-esque nightmare, except apparently it's not.
Let's see. What else can we say here that hasn't been said about the NYC Fashion Week fall 2016 schedule?
If you're a guy with a girlfriend, you'll probably see a ton of models, up-to (and including) Cara Delevingne, not one of whom you're allowed to talk to.
And when you're at your friend's pest-infested house in Queens, be sure to zip all your bags up tight, or you might be bringing back home more than a ton of fashion show programs.

(An example of what it means to be "freewheelin'". It's okay. Don't be afraid.)
image: http://fashionweekdates.com/freddy-says-relax.jpg
(The coolest shows are held in New York's "Meatpacking District"??
Okay, now we're a little afraid.)
(*We copyrighted that. Okay, no we didn't.)
NEW YORK FASHION WEEK DATES (February 2016)
New York Fashion Week dates are always in February and September.
MB Fashion Week tends to begin on a Thursday, so that's a terrific guide in and of itself.
So based on previous years, MB's schedule of events will begin on the first Thursday of February or the first Thursday in September of the year in question. (And remember, Fall collections are shown in Spring, and Spring collections are shown in Fall. What a world!)
(Although some are calling for a new paradigm. If you're interested in that, we think the hashtag is #destroyfashion, or maybe #lessconfusion. Hey, anything is possible!
image: http://fashionweekdates.com/kristen-stewart-balenciaga-rebel-without-actual-toplessness.jpg
And if you're really interested, after NYC's dates come London (known for its edgier, independent designers), then Milan (known for a lot of designers leaving), then Paris, which, let's face it, is the true home of fashion, and where you'll see heavy-hitters like Louis Vuitton (doesn't return emails), Christian Dior (is that, like, still a guy?), Balenciaga (Kristen Stewart topless?? Oh you rebel! No wait, we mean: "descending" tone), Karl Lagerfeld (we think), and Pierre Cardin (not just cheap-o letter openers from the 1980s anymore!).
Did we leave anyone out? Yes, lots. D-oh!!
WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR FOR NEW YORK FASHION WEEK?
Now that you know the dates, you're ready to go! But you've never been to New York -- much less fashion week -- and want to know what to wear during February or September?
FEBRUARY IN NEW YORK (FALL/WINTER COLLECTIONS)
The weather in New York in February will be cold! In the 30-40° F range, anyway, which is may not be cold if you're from, say, Reykjavik, Vermont or Alaska (actually we just checked and it's about the same in those places: thank you big CEOs who lied about global warming for your fat paychecks; meh).
Here are some averages for NYC during last February fashion week:
DAY 1 DAY 2 DAY 3 DAY 4
32° Lo 26° 34° Lo 27° 32° Lo 21° 36° Lo 18°
DAY 5 DAY 6 DAY 7 DAY 8
45° Lo 34° 44° Lo 36° 44° Lo 33° 46° Lo 33°
What does this tell us, dear friends? A medium-thick coat and a fashinable sweater might be in order, but you're probably going to have to take the coat off later in the day, so you might want to bring a backpack or something to put it in, especially if you're rushing from show to show (which will cause you to overheat).
Summary:
The days will be cold, but the nights will be a lot colder! (Look at Day 4 ... 18°? Agh!)
Recommended:
Day: Medium-thick coat, fashionable sweater
Night: Thermals, more layers
SEPTEMBER IN NEW YORK (FALL/WINTER COLLECTIONS)
You might think September means a crisp, early fall in New York ... except as you can see, it probably doesn't.
Here are some averages for NYC during last September fashion week:
DAY 1 DAY 2 DAY 3 DAY 4
80° Lo 64° 72° Lo 57° 80° Lo 59° 83° Lo 64°
DAY 5 DAY 6 DAY 7 DAY 8
73° Lo 57° 87° Lo 68° 96° Lo 77° 87° Lo 70°
96 degrees on Day 7?? Yep, welcome to hell. You should be fine with a tee-shirt and a light jacket (in case your day of runway shows becomes a night). But it's going to be warm at night and reasonably-to-very hot during the day. But it's still early September which, in a way, is the very tail-end of summer, so there you go. Either way, wear those new Christian Louboutin shoes, and you'll be fiiiiiine.
Summary:
The days will be medium-to-very hot, and the nights may be slightly chilly. (Look at Day 2 ... that was the coldest it got last NYFW.)
Recommended:
Day: Breathable shirt or tee during the day
Night: Light jacket (as needed)
Have a great time at fashion week NYC!

New York, New York, that marvelous town! Wait, or is that Chicago? We're so confused!
More to come on this and other worldwide fashion week topics.
NYC FASHION WEEK FEBRUARY 2016
When in New York, don't forget to have a "knish," which is something you never hear about. Oh right, they're not that great; that's probably why.
Also in New York (which used to be called "The Big Apple" until they realized it looked more like a squashed fish, plus "apple" never made much sense to begin with), don't forget you can totally climb the Eiffel Tower, I mean Empire State Building, though watch out for pesky helicopters and firehoses.
We also recommend sightseeing and buying, like, a watch or designer clothing or maybe bringing something back for the kids, like a warning not to go there because people are nuts.
But seriously, there are a lot of things to do in New York, we just can't think of any right now.
Oh, wait! Opera and musicals. They still have those, right?
See? New York is cool, if you don't like movies or real things to do.
NY FASHION WEEK TICKETS
Looking to buy tickets to New York Fashion Week?
Most events are "industry only," which means you'll need a press invitation (time to fire up that blog!). Or become a buyer for a retail chain, boutique, etc.
Still want to attend? All is not lost, depending on where you want to go. Here's some information on how to buy tickets to the various fashion weeks.
